Indications, characteristics and screening
Search for pathogenic leptospires (Leptospira questioning in a broad sense) by real-time PCR.
The following serovars are detected (non-exhaustive list): canicola, jaundice, autumnal, australis, grippotyphosa...
Test indications
- Diagnostic de leptospirosis in all its forms, including chronicles.
- Transmission risk assessment especially after contact with a sick animal.
Test characteristics
- Real-time RT-PCR
- Detection threshold
- Detection of all pathogenic serovars in dogs. No detection of saprophytic leptospires.
- No possibility of typing the serovar involved.
Samples to be taken
- Song EDTA and urine (bacteremia occurs earlier than excretion in the urine but is transient). It is possible to take several urine samples over 24 hours to carry out a single analysis on the mixture. The samples must be taken before initiation of antibiotic treatment.
- Foie, rein a post-mortem.
- Reproductive disorders: organs of the runt, vaginal cells and sang EDTA.
Interpretation of the result
- Negative result: Absence of leptospires or quantity below the detection threshold. If the animal is under antibiotic treatment at the time of collection, risk of false negative.
- Positive result : Presence of leptospires, compatible with leptospirosis.
