Renibacterium salmoninarum

Indications, characteristics and screening

Real-time PCR detection of Renibacterium salmonine, bacteria responsible for BKD (Bacterial Kidney Disease) at the salmonids.

Test indications

  • Individual or pool diagnosis during a clinical suspicion of BKD
  • Sanitary control of a salmonid farm
  • Quality control of coelomic fluid or embryonated eggs salmonids

Test characteristics

Samples to be taken

  • Kidney and/or Spleen (unfixed) for clinical diagnosis
(pool analysis possible: 3 samples maximum)
  • Embryonated eggs (dry pot, without transport medium - Minimum volume: 60mL)
  • Coelomic liquid (tube or dry pot, without transport medium)

Interpretation of the result

  • Positive result:
Symptomatic animal: presence of the bacteria in the sample analyzed. Interpretation based on the bacterial load measured and the clinical context.
Asymptomatic animal or fish products: presence of the bacteria in the sample analyzed.
  • Negative result:
Symptomatic animal: absence of Renibacterium salmoninarum or quantity below the detection threshold. Allows you to exclude an acute form of the disease.
Asymptomatic animal or fish products: absence of Renibacterium salmoninarum or quantity below the detection threshold.
